A new Warrior Breakfast, part of a new healthy living initiative being introduced to the military, was unveiled at RMA Sandhurst by facilities management services company Aramark.

The Warrior Breakfast was launched in front of 900 Army personnel last week and the speakers included Prince Harry and former England footballer Rio Ferdinand. The event was organised in conjunction with the Field Army Health Conference to raise awareness of mental health.

The Royal Military Academy (RMA) Sandhurst is where all officers in the British Army are trained to take on the responsibility of leading their soldiers. The Aramark Culinary team and Colin Sinclair, the district catering warrant officer, designed the Warrior Breakfast.

The Warrior Breakfast includes an oat pot with peanut butter shot, an energiser smoothie, a raspberry and kale smoothie, avocado with poached egg on toast and mushroom hash with poached egg on multigrain toast.

Elbha Purcell, head of dietetics and wellbeing for Aramark Northern Europe, said: “The right blend of carbohydrates, protein and fat is key to maximising performance and the Warrior Breakfast has been specifically designed to ensure military personnel are consuming the right nutrients at the right time for their training and recovery.

“For that reason, we base our warrior breakfasts on slow release complex carbohydrates that are high in fibre, such as wholegrain breads, cereals, oats, and high value proteins such as eggs, beans, lean meats and Greek yoghurt.”
