Chef Daniel Clifford will be cooking a complimentary Christmas meal for deserving pensioners at his Essex-based restaurant, The Flitch of Bacon, on 20 December “as a token of gratitude to the community.”

For their exclusive reservation, members of the community must nominate a retired relative, friend or “outstanding” person who deserves a reward in the form of the three-course lunch cooked by Clifford and head chef Martin Major, which they will accompany them to if successful.

Chef patron Clifford said: “The Flitch is an intensely personal project for me and I’m glad to have had the chance to buy my local pub in a place like Dunmow. We’re really proud to be a part of the local community here, as they (among other things) have aided The Flitch in becoming so popular. It was a no-brainer in thanking them in some way and this is the very least we could do.

“By offering this Christmas meal at The Flitch, we’re giving members of the community a chance to show an older person that they haven’t been forgotten about during the busy Christmas season. We think it is an awesome gesture and highlights something that shouldn’t be overlooked during the festive period.”

Entries are now open via telephone: 01371 821 660 or emailing with winners to be confirmed on 15 December.
