Subway opened its 2,500th UK store on 4 August in Keynsham, as the company revealed its new 'Fresh Forward' design.

The brand says the design offers customers an enhanced and modern experience featuring clean lines and new features such as digital menu boards and free to use charging ports.

Subway operator, Sue Pasco, said: “The modern design will offer customers more of what they love about Subway stores– highlighting our bread baked in store daily, cookies and some of our veggies in modern displays – whilst offering great value and fresh, varied menu options.”

Subway recently announced plans to increase the number of stores in the UK and Ireland to 3,000 by 2020, which it says will create 5,000 new jobs.

Subway opened its first UK store in the Republic of Ireland in 1994 and reached the UK two years later with the opening of a site in Brighton.

In 2002 the brand reached 100 stores in the UK and Ireland and by 2008 had over 1,250 sites across the countries.
