High street sandwich chain, Subway, picked up the Food-To-Go Operator of the Year Award at IGD’s annual award show on Tuesday (3 October).

The fast food chain, which allows customers to make their own sandwiches, beat of competition from McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC and Pret a Manger to take home the award.

Votes were cast independently by British shoppers using IGD’s shoppervista tracker with subway topping the list for overall customer satisfaction.

Sacha Clark, marketing director for Subway UK and Ireland, said: “It’s an honour to win an award that has been voted for by the people that matter most to us, our customers. It was a lovely surprise and we couldn’t be more thrilled for this recognition.”

The win follows the announcement of the Subway's major expansion plans earlier this year, with plans to open 3,000 stores by 2020.
