Subway to trial London delivery service in new year

Sandwich shop chain Subway has announced that it will trial a delivery service across its London stores in 2018.

The food-to-go specialist has decided to make the move due to the success its franchisees have had with third party delivery companies such as Deliveroo and Just Eat.

“Subway is always looking at new innovative ways to meet our customers’ increasing demands, including home delivery,” said a company spokesperson.

Consumer spend on online from restaurants online this year has increased by over 20% on 2016 according to data released from Barclaycard this week.

Meanwhile, market research group NPD recently predicted an additional spend of £656m (+17%) by consumers on deliveries in two years time.

There are currently around 2,500 Subway branches in the UK and Ireland, around 900 of which are run by franchisees.
