Tom Daley, the 14-year-old diving sensation, who represented Britain at this summer's Olympic Games in Beijing, visited Longlevens Junior School in Gloucester to promote Sodexo's 'Food for Sport' healthy eating initiative to pupils.

Sodexo, who sponsor Tom Daley, organised the 'Food for Sport' initiative encourages school children to eat healthily and lead an active lifestyle. The young sportsman joined students at Longlevens Junior School, where Sodexo provides meals, for a day that began with a special assembly where students were given the opportunity to ask Tom questions on a range of subjects from his training regime, to how he felt about taking part in the Olympics and his ambitions for the future. Tom created a buzz in the dining room at lunchtime as he dished up a range of nutritious food, spoke to students about their sporting ambitions and whetted their appetite for healthy eating. His 'Top Tips' for eating a balanced diet, to help pupils both in the classroom and when taking part in sporting activities, were displayed in the dining room. Tom said: "I am really happy to be able to help Sodexo with their healthy eating campaign. I am very passionate about healthy eating as it helps me perform at my best. The right food and levels of carbohydrate can help everyone perform well in sport and concentrate at school. I loved talking to students at Longlevens and hopefully I've helped encourage more young people to eat healthily and exercise more." Sodexo became Tom's major personal sponsor in June. The funding enabled him to prepare for the Olympics and his increasing schedule of international competitions. Colm O'Mahoney, divisional director, Sodexo Education said: "We are delighted that Tom is able to help us spread the healthy eating and lifestyle message to young children. It is important to engage with children at a young age and by using Tom we are able to facilitate that dialogue through somebody who they will really look up to and admire." Gemma Salmon, PE Coordinator, at Longlevens school said: "Tom was an inspiration to all the children at Longlevens Junior School and easily engaged in conversation with them. This enabled him to highlight the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle and showed that perseverance and dedication can lead to exceptional achievement."
