Global services company Sodexo has teamed up with conservation organisation WWF to encourage students at universities across the UK and Ireland to choose foods that are sustainable.

From 7-25 October ‘Finer Diner’ pop-up restaurants will visit five universities where Sodexo already provides food services. Students will be able to sample the 100% plant-based street food dishes, which will become apart of the university menus.

The universities include University College of London (7-8 Oct), Coventry University (10-11 Oct), St John University (14-15 Oct), Solent University (17-18 Oct) and Trinity College Dublin (24-25 Oct).

David Mulcahy, food innovation director at Sodexo, said: “We know that generation Z are increasingly turning towards vegan and plant-based diets to improve their health and reduce their impact on the environment.

“We are looking forward to demonstrating that popular dishes like curries, kebabs and tacos, can be just as delicious when they’re 100% plant-based.”

The street food dishes are inspired by Knorr Professional and WWF-UK’s Future 50 Foods report that highlights 50 plant-based foods that are healthy and have a low environmental impact.

Nick Hughes, food sustainability advisor at WWF-UK, added: “Our main aim is to encourage students to explore plant-based foods and help them make the connection between what they put on their plates and its impact on the planet.

“Young people represent the future of our society, and we feel that encouraging them to make the switch could have a major influence in the fight for our world.”
