Pub operators gear up for Casual Dining 2018

Industry trade show Casual Dining 2018 is expecting to see a record number of UK pub and bar operators attend the annual two-day event later this month.

Event organisers Diversified UK said it expects the yearly increase in pub and bar buyers to continue when the show returns to the Business Design Centre in London on 21-22 February.

It points to a 10% rise in the attendance of industry decision makers in 2017 and a 25% rise in 2016 as evidence of the “growing importance of food sales as a crucial revenue stream for many”.

Regular visitors to the event include representatives from leading pubcos, Ei Group, Punch Taverns, Mitchells & Butlers, JD Wetherspoon, Admiral Taverns, Marston's, Greene King, and Stonegate Pub Company.

“I’ve always loved the show,” said Yummy Pub Co’s Tim Foster, another repeat visitor (and 2018 speaker). “Getting up close and personal to existing suppliers for a natter, and finding new ones, is what has always excited me – and Casual Dining is the market leader.”

Joining Foster on a panel to discuss the opportunities, trends and challenges ahead for casual dining pub operators will be Brian Keeley-Whiting, managing director of Whiting & Hammond, and Alexander Salussolia, manging director of Glendola Leisure Group. The session will be hosted by ALMR chief, Kate Nicholls.

The seminar lineup also features keynote interviews with Chris Hill, chief executive of New World Trading Company, and Paul Merrett, owner at Jolly Fine Pub Group.

Other speakers include Nick Collins, chief executive of Loungers, Susan Chappell, divisional director/executive committee at Mitchells & Butlers, Chris Knights, group executive chef at Young’s & Geronimo Pubs, Antony Bennett, head of food at Loungers, and Glenn Evans, head of food development at Las Iguanas, La Tasca and La Vina.

The confirmed visitor list for the show includes a large number of well known operators, such as Fuller, BrewDog, Dirty Martini, Peach Pubs, Young’s and the Deltic Group.

Over 200 industry suppliers will be exhibiting across the two days, offering everything from new food and drink products, catering equipment and tech, workwear, tableware, payment solutions and business services.

Heineken UK, Carlsberg UK, Molson Coors and Budweiser Budvar UK are among the exhibitors.
