Pub and restaurant operator Oakman Inns has announced plans to extend its first site, The Akeman, as part of its 10-year birthday celebrations.

Undergoing “major” refurbishment, the Tring-based pub will reopen on 11 November with a neighbouring shop (acquired by Oakman a couple of years ago) incorporated to provide more customer space.

As well as extending the rear and replacing the single accessible toilet with two new WC’s, the venue will also feature an expanded kitchen space - providing a better working environment, room for a wood fired oven, and new energy-efficient induction hobs and stoves, which will replace much of its former gas-fired cooking equipment.

Oakman Inns’ property director, Malcolm Schooling, added: “A single opening for customers is formed between the fireplace area of No. 9 and the new front area of No. 10.

“A small curved bar servery is being installed to provide a complete bar offering for our guests, in what will create an area full of cosy corners and the opportunity to hold semi private parties and events.”

Guests will also be able to choose from a wider range of dishes that Akeman can now cater for, including a “more family-friendly menu” of handcrafted pizzas, as well as its staple menu of Mediterranean-inspired flavours and charcoal grills.

Set to open 11 November, The Akeman is currently looking to expand its team to 40 full and part-time staff.
