JJ Foodservice expands to care home sector

In response to the “significant increase” in demand for care home services, wholesaler JJ Foodservice has expanded its sales team and product range to support the sector.

Terry Larkin, group general manager, explained: “The care homes sector is worth around £15.9 billion a year in the UK, with around 410,000 residents.

New reports claim the price of vanilla has “soared” over the past two years, forcing many ice cream makers to take the popular flavour of menus or absorb costs.

New figures reveal that half a million Brits are currently living undiagnosed with coeliac disease - creating “a growing health problem across the UK,” said independent charity Coeliac UK.

As part of its Awareness Week this month (14-20 May), the charity is urging health professionals and the general public to “take the disease seriously” claiming that “there is still a perception that it’s not that serious because it requires a gluten free diet as its medical treatment.”

NACC announces 2018 Forum details

The National Association of Care Catering’s (NACC) 2018 Training and Development Forum (TDF) is taking place 3-5 October at the East Midlands Conference Centre (Nottingham).

Bartlett Mitchell celebrates ‘tremendous’ sustainability results

Independent caterer Bartlett Mitchell last year reduced the number of its coffee cups going to landfill by 500,000, and its food waste by 7.5% - building on its reputation as the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s (SRA) three-time Most Sustainable Contract Caterer Award winner.

A team of British adventurers this week (30 April) broke a world record for holding the world’s highest black tie dinner at Mount Everest’s North Col, created by chef Sat Bains and London cocktail bar, Mr Fogg’s.
