July is always a busy month for the LACA Chair and 2014 was no exception for me.

I started the month (July 1st) spending a day doing media training with our PR and political advisors Tetra Strategy.  As I’m discovering, the LACA Chair’s role involves all sorts of press work and it is best to be prepared and comfortable with all scenarios.

I left Tetra and crossed London to attend the Catey’s awards, a fantastic evening with friends and colleagues.

On the 3rd I returned to London for a School Food Reference Group meeting with the DfE where we discussed the ongoing progress towards the implementation of UIFSM and the new Food Standards.

8th of July and I arrive at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole to attend the LACA Main Event, I won’t go into detail as there will be plenty of coverage in the next issue of School Caterer and on the website.  Suffice to say it was the biggest ever with over 1,200 visitors and the delegate programme was the best I’ve been to, topped off with the presence of Minister for Schools David Laws (click here to watch his speech).

Barely had I recovered from covering 15 miles around the corridors of the Hilton then I had to return to start planning the 2015 event (July 25th) with Neil Porter and the events committee, you don’t realise how much time goes in to events like this until you get involved.

Make sure you look out for details on our new Autumn Seminar on Friday October 24th at Chesford  Grange Hotel which will be circulated shortly and ‘save the date’!

I’ll let you know how my August diary goes at the beginning of September.
