Japanese restaurant Jidori to open second site in Covent Garden

Dalston-based Japanese restaurant, Jidori, is set to open its second eatery in Covent Garden in February.

Specialising in yakitori and national small dishes, co-owners Natalie Lee-Joe and Brett Redman have worked with head chef, Shunta Matsubara, to extend the Covent Garden menu, which he will head up when it opens next year.

Alongside existing dishes of Tsukune yakitori (minced chicken with egg yolk), katsu curry scotch egg and okra-nomiyaki, the new restaurant will also offer a greater choice of large plates and a daily changing specials menu, as well as a drinks menu comprising artisan sake, craft beers and classic cocktails.

Co-founder Lee-Joe said: “I’ve been travelling to Japan for years and some of the best memories I’ve made are with friends on a night out, singing karaoke at the top of my lungs, while eating and drinking well in to the night.

“We firmly believe food is always at the heart of a good night out - the space in Covent Garden allows us to bring the fun back into dining with our own karaoke room. Our little spot in Dalston will always be our home but moving into central London allows us to build something more exciting in Covent Garden - it’s the right move for us.”

Redman added: “It’s amazing to think what our little restaurant in Dalston has achieved in the last two years. I feel we’re really doing great things there and we’re all looking forward to the move to Covent Garden in 2018, and sharing our food with an even greater number of people!”

The two-storey Catherine Street venue can cater for up to 50 diners and also has a private dining karaoke room for groups of up to 12.
