Help prevent hunger this Christmas by donating a ‘Reverse advent calendar’

07/12/2017 - 07:00
Help stop hunger this Christmas by donating a ‘reverse advent calendar’ to your local One Can Trust food bank on 24 December, which will be sorted and packed into food parcels distributed to those in need.

Organised by the One Can Trust charity, the initiative asks the public to place either a can of food or £1 donation in an empty box for each day of Advent (1-24 December), and to drop it off to their local foodbank on Christmas Eve morning. There, they can see how their contribution will be sorted and packed into food parcels before being passed on to people in need in the community.

Specific items needed:

  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Tinned potatoes / dried mash
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Pasta sauce
  • Coffee/hot chocolate
  • Tinned spaghetti
  • Tinned meat meals (curries, stews, mince, hot dogs)
  • Ham/corned beef
  • Long-life milk
  • Toilet rolls
  • Toothbrushes and paste
  • Shampoo and shower gel
  • Washing up liquid
