The owners of a new pub set to open in Huddersfield claim that it will be the largest in the UK.

Hellfire Entertainment has taken over an 11,000sq ft venue that has been home to an opera house, theatre, cinema and nightclub during its 171-year history.

The company is currently in the process of putting in a third floor at 6,000sq ft and a 6,500sq ft roof terrace, which company-co founder Ian Snowball says will make the Collosseum larger than JD Wetherspoon’s soon-to-open 10,500sq ft pub.

JDW announced the opening of the Royal Victoria Pavilion pub in Ramsgate in June, saying it would ‘probably’ be the biggest in the country.

Snowball says it will take 18 months for the project to be completed, although the company plans to open the first part of the pub by October.

“The Collosseum is part of a very big project that has taken several years to put together,” said Snowball. “This is a new concept with many unusual parts and as it is so large we are doing a phased rollout.”
