Get Pudding Day - WHAT A DAY!

After very early starts, myself and Martin Walker ventured into schools around the country for the last day of National School Meals Week, which was 'Get Pudding Day' sponsored by Ambrosia.

Martin was at the official launch venue, Walkergate School in Newcastle and myself (and Kate Snow) in Garden Fields Junior School in St Albans. All of the Home Economist Team were also in schools from North Somerset to Doncaster; from Trafford to Lancashire - all very busy and having a great day!

At the launch event (pictures to follow), Walkergate went to town, decorating the dining room with bunting and posters, hats for the children etc. Also, as this was the launch event, not only was there a great range of delicious puddings on offer, but the children took part in an activity event, which showed the prizes than can be won with the Ambrosia competition.

And the same in St Albans, where the children were asked to write up the pudding posters and once again, the Hertfordshire Team created a superb pudding offering, backed up by Ambrosia Pots, which the kids went mad for (which was pleasing to see!). I have to say they were also the most polite, well-mannered primary school children I have ever encountered.

I am waiting to hear from my other colleagues, who I know also had superb days with great kids; excellent, passionate catering teams; delicious traditional puddings and very appreciative children.

Judging by the amount of 'Twitter traffic that was going on last week, it would lead me to think that National School Meals Week 2012 was a huge success. The press coverage on the launch day was excellent with all the National media channels giving it a mention. Also, one key thing for's clear that the passion  and comittment out there for creating healthy; nutritious school meals still exists, which is great to see. Goverments may come and go; policies may come and go, but one thing remains - ensuring our school children have great food that stimulates great learning, which means a great start in life.

Well done to all the various teams and individuals involved in this year's NSMW - I'm sure they were all extremely grateful for last weekend!
