Bills’ Restaurants Ltd has appointed the former head of Punch Taverns pub group, Duncan Garrood, as its new chief executive officer with immediate effect.

Garrood (left), who was chief executive of Punch for two years between 2015 and 2017, will be charged with leading Bill’s through a planned new phase of development and expansion.

“I’m delighted and honoured to join the team at Bill’s,” said Garrood. “They have built a superb restaurant business and my focus will be to enable Bill’s to continue to excite our customers and to grow.

“This is a really exciting time to be joining one of the country's best loved restaurant businesses. We have some exciting and ambitious growth plans for more sites across the country that will serve the great food and drinks that our millions of customers have come to expect from us."

Plans announced by the 80-strong chain include a ‘significantly evolved’ concept at several new sites with menus that offer daily changing specials.

The first of these new restaurants opened in St Albans this month with two sites London set to follow. All will offer seated bar areas where menus of new dips and snacks will be available.

Bill's chief executive position was made vacant following Mark Fox's decision to step down due to personal reasons after just under two years in the role.
