The Giggling Squid, a chain of Thai cuisine restaurants, has opened up its first location in the capital with a site in Wimbledon Village.

As is the way with all of its restaurants, the south London eatery will offer a Thai tapas menu at lunch and a separate dinner menu in the evening both featuring a variety of seafood, meet, curry, noodle and stir fry.

The tapas menu at the 100-cover site will be made up of a selection of small plates such as salt and pepper squid, sleeping honey duck and lime and chilli beef and papaya salad.

Dishes on the dinner menu include salt and pepper squid, lamb shank massaman curry, the black pepper soft shell crab, and ‘crying beef’ (grilled sirloin marinated in Thai herbs accompanied by a spicy dipping sauce).

The restaurant will also carry its usual children’s menu, ‘Little Tapas for Little People’, made up of smaller versions of dishes on the main menu.

The Giggling Squid is owned by Thai-born Pranee Laurillard and her husband Andrew, who named the company after the nickname of one of their three children.

The Wimbledon launch takes the family of restaurants to 22 and marks the business's first move into London, eight years after a first site was opened in Hove, East Sussex.

The Giggling Squid estate will soon reach 24 with new branches in Beaconsfield and Bath soon to open.
