International coffee chain Esquires Coffee has opened its 52nd shop in the UK and Ireland with the launch of a new outlet in the south-west London district of Putney.

The shop will sit next to the company’s new UK head office at 285 to 287 Putney Bridge, a 4,290 sq ft space which used to be home to Putney Canteen.

David Kornbluth of CDG Leisure, which brokered the deal together on behalf of the previous tenant, said: “This location in Putney was an ideal choice for Esquires Coffee due to its adaptability. The ability to place the company’s office and a coffee shop together on site was a highlight.”

Esquires Coffee was founded in 1993 in British Columbia, Canada. It is owned by New Zealand firm, Cooks Global Foods.

The company first ventured into the UK and Europe in 2000 and proceeded to grow its estate to over half a century of stores through franchising agreements.

Over a third of the chain’s 130-plus coffee shops are now located in the UK and Ireland, where Esquires owns the master franchises to the majority of stores.

In October 2013, Cooks Global Foods presented its plans to consolidate and grow the business, with a minimum objective of 580 Esquires stores globally by 2020.

The company is scheduled to open its first site in Pakistan next month in the first of a planned network of 40 stores rolled out across the country over the next ten years.
