Cook celebrates 40 Years of school cooking

27/09/2007 - 00:00
Sue Dotchin from Benson Primary School in Oxfordshire is this month marking 40 years of providing pupils with school dinners.

The cook, who is a former pupil of the school, is being treated to a special meal today to celebrate the occasion.

In September 1967, Sue started as a stand-in cook at Benson Primary School and she quickly became a permanent member of staff after it became apparent Sue has a real love of cooking, food and children.

She says the kitchen hasn't changed much, beyond the addition of new equipment every so many years, and a smaller team when more jobs had to be done by hand.

Sue, who cooks with fresh ingredients daily and has a knack of persuading children to try something new and her efforts were rewarded when Benson Primary School received the South Oxfordshire Healthy Choice Award.

Showing no sign of slowing down, Sue enjoys her job so much she can't imagine stopping now: "Just because I've been in the job for 40 years doesn't mean I want to retire!"

Colin Garnham-Edge, service manager of Food With Thought, added: "We are very proud of Sue. She is one of our best cooks and we are lucky that she has been with us for so many years. We look forward to celebrating with her on the 27th and making it a day worth remembering. From all of us at Food With Thought: Congratulations Sue, and may you be with us for many years to come!"
