The Pub and Bar Careers Group hosted a Parliamentary showcase of apprenticeships yesterday (6 March), which saw 70 MPs gather to learn more about beer and pub sector apprentices and industry plans to “grow its own talent.”

Part of National Apprenticeship Week, the event was supported and attended by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), and included a number of activities designed to “showcase the range of skills required to work in the beer and pub sector.”

It also promoted Brewhouse and Kitchen’s brewery apprenticeship Trailblazer scheme, which is currently being considered by the Institute for Apprenticeships.

Alongside companies such as Fuller’s, Everards, Butcombe Brewery, Beds and Bars, Greene King and Mitchells and Butlers, BBPA chief executive, Brigid Simmonds, was also in attendance and said: “It’s never been more important for the industry to grow its own talent, and apprenticeships are a critical element of our strategy to recruit and retain the talent we need to support future growth of the sector.”

Claiming “apprenticeships add enormous value to brewing and pubs,” the BBPA added: “Events such as this enable our sector to engage with MPs on the relevant issues and opportunities for apprentices.”
