ASK’s autumn menu introduces purple basil pesto to UK restaurants

Italian restaurant chain ASK has launched its autumn menu across the UK this week, including two new dishes featuring purple basil pesto.

Claiming to be the “first UK restaurant chain to offer purple basil pesto” – both “punchier” in flavour and “more striking looking” that its green counterpart – the company is producing over three tonnes from a family-run farm in Verona, solely for its autumn menu.

Customers who order one of the two dishes - garlic bread speciale with purple basil pesto and purple basil pesto genovese pasta - will receive a complimentary packet of grow-your-own purple basil seeds. Other new dishes include: pumpkin arancini, spinach and ricotta girasole and yoghurt panna cotta.

Head of food at ASK Italian, Jeena Rodrigues, says: “We’re always looking for ways to elevate our most loved dishes, and purple basil pesto is the perfect combination of classic Italian flavours and Instagram-worthy presentation.

“Working with the farmers in Verona, we’re able to give the beautiful herb the close care and attention that it requires for high quality production.”
