Asian Catering Federation announces inaugural Asian Restaurant Awards winners

The Asian Catering Federation (ACF) crowned the winners of its inaugural Asian Restaurant Awards this week (5 March) - recognising the public’s favourite restaurants and takeaways across the country.

With over 100,000 public votes from Bangladeshi, Chinese and Indian to Japanese, Turkish and Vietnamese cuisine, the ceremony took place at the Hilton Manchester and was hosted by BBC news anchor, Barbita Sharma.

The full winners are as below:

  • Best Chinese Restaurant - Hakkasan, London
  • Best Malaysian - Rasa Sayan, London
  • Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year - Asha’s, Manchester
  • Best Middle Eastern - Kookoo, Surbiton, Surrey 
  • Best Turkish - Istanbul, Manchester
  • Best Pan Asian Restaurant - Palm Pan Asia, Winchester 
  • Best Chain - Aagrah Group, North of England 
  • Best Bangladeshi - Ziya Restaurant, Manchester
  • Best Indian - The Naz, Manchester
  • Best Buffet Restaurant - Royal Nawaab, Manchester
  • Best Newcomer - Urban Kohinoor, Bristol
  • Gourmet Restaurant of the Year - Sigiriya, Altrincham
  • Just Eat Awards for the Best Takeaway/Delivery - Mushtaqs, Hamilton
  • Best Event Caterers (south) - Sapna, Southall, London
  • Best Event Caterers (north) - Royal Nawaab 
  • Asian Entrepreneur of the Year awards (female) Asma Khan of Darjeeling Express, London
  • Asian Entrepreneur of the Year awards (male) - Mohammed Abdul Ahad of Millennium Balti, Leamington Spa.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award - Abdul Ahad of Nazma Group of restaurants (Scotland)

ACF chairman Yawar Khan declared the Asian Restaurant Awards “a great success and promised to return next year with an even bigger and better event.”
 

Awards judge, George Shaw, added: “Over 25 years ago culinary pioneer Madha Jaffrey told me that too many Asian restaurant owners were in a race to the bottom, under cutting each other’s prices, with enormous menus of poorly cooked dishes. Tonight, we celebrate the achievements of those in a race to the top.”
