‘Spike’ in EU workers entering the industry, figures reveal

Hospitality software provider, Fourth, yesterday (18 December) announced that there was an increase in EU workers entering the hospitality industry last month (November) despite on-going Brexit negotiations.

With fears about the end of free movement still rife among EU workers and business operators alike, latest figures show that new EU entrants to the industry jumped from 38.5% in September to 44% in November.

80% of people aged over 60 in Britain say they are not getting their recommended five portions of fruit and veg every day, according to a survey.

Nearly a quarter (23%) of people over 60 said they did not eat as much fresh fruit and veg as they could because they lived alone and the produce went off before they could eat it, with another 22% not being confident enough in their cooking ability to use certain produce.

Milan (Italy) has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest panettone’ – the city’s traditional Christmas cake – weighing a mega 332 kilos and 150cm high.

Mount Charles donates surplus food to homeless

Foodservice company Mount Charles has partnered with Belfast-based charity, The Welcome Organisation, to distribute surplus food from its new Freshly Chopped flagship outlet, which opened this month.

Located in Donegall Square West (Belfast), healthy fast food chain Freshly Chopped offers a selection of salads, sandwiches and wraps to take away or eat in.
