Fermented dairy products protect against heart attacks, study suggests

Men who eat ‘plenty’ of fermented dairy products have a smaller risk of incident coronary heart disease than men who eat less of them, according to a study from the University of Eastern Finland.

Coffee cup recycling rates on the up

Foodservice operators are doing everything they can to become more sustainable. And it seems their efforts are not in vein. A new report published this week (29 October) has found that coffee cup recycling rates have increased from 1:400 to 1:25 since 2016.

And according to conductor the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG), rates are set to increase further to 1:12 by 2019.

BMI Healthcare to ditch non-recyclable cups by December

Private hospital group BMI Healthcare has vowed to remove all plastic and non-recyclable cups from its 58 sites across England, Scotland and Wales by the end of November.

Foodservice industry reacts to autumn budget

Chancellor Phillip Hammond announced the UK Autumn budget yesterday (29 October), which included a tax on plastic packaging that does not contain at least 30% recycled material.

It also included cuts to business rates, a reduction to the costs of apprenticeships, with the government committing a 95% contribution for non-levy payers, and a 2% digital services tax on UK revenues of big technology companies.
