Coca-Cola to buy Costa Coffee in £3.9billion deal

Whitbread, who own Costa, have announced its sale of the coffee chain for £3.9billion to Coca-Cola.

Alison Brittain, Whitbread chief executive, recognised the coffee shop’s brand strength and international growth potential, and said that with the sale, Whitbread would be able to focus on growth for its hotel chain, Premier Inn.

Oxfordshire County Council has completed a major re-branding of its 54 Primary School dining rooms across the county, following the collapse of Carillion.

European packaging organisation complains to EU Ombudsman over plastics strategy

Foodservice packaging organisation Pack2Go Europe has complained to the European Ombudsman about the way the European Commission (EC) prepared the EU Plastic Strategy.

It is also not happy about the way it handled the drafting of a directive in May on single use plastic.

UKHospitality commended the Liberal Democrats’ plans to abolish business rates, but stressed that action must be taken immediately to support hospitality businesses crippled by the system.

The report, ‘Taxing Land, Not Investment’, calls for the abolition of business rates and its replacement with a tax on land values, the Commercial Landowner Levy (CLL).
