Aquavit London hosts Swedish crayfish party

Scandinavian restaurant Aquavit London is hosting a traditional Swedish crayfish party and number of special menus throughout the summer, to celebrate Sweden’s long-standing crayfish tradition.

On Thursday 7 September, Aquavit will be celebrating its heritage with a traditional Kräftpremiär – crayfish party – taking place outside its restaurant in St. James’s Market. Priced at £55 p.p., the ticketed event includes a set menu of two-dozen crayfish as well as traditional decorations, hats, bibs and a song booklet.

The party champions Sweden’s long-standing crayfish tradition, which began in the early 1900s when restrictions on harvesting were introduced. The delicacy then became an exclusive luxury and the Kräftpremiär has remained one of the country’s most celebrated events of the year since.

To coincide with the event, Aquavit will feature Crayfish with Västerbotten tart, watercress and dill mayonnaise on its menus throughout August and September, as well as offering a crayfish special at £22 for one dozen or £39 for two-dozen. A private dining set crayfish menu is also available upon request, at £60 p.p.
