ALMR responds to Sky’s 5% price increase

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) has responded the news that Sky, television and internet service provider, will increase its prices by 5% for on-trade customers, but will apply this to lower ratable values when calculating bills.

The price change from Sky will mean premises with a lower rateable value will experience a price decrease and premises with a higher rateable value will experience a price increase.

ALMR chief executive Kate Nicholls said: “Sky has taken into account spiraling rates costs for pubs and listened to our concerns about increasing rateable value.

“The decision to use lower rateable values will mean no pub will face a repeat of previous double whammy increases at a time when their rates bills are going up and margins tightening.”

However, Nicholls added: “The use of lower rateable value is welcome, but businesses will have to think hard about whether they can afford another price hike on top of considerable property and wage costs.”
