To celebrate International Women’s Day yesterday (8 March), healthy eating chain Abokado has revealed that 73% of its employees are women – 62% of which are in management and/or senior roles.

Since founded in 2004, the London-based restaurant now employs 150 women (73%) compared to 55 men (27%).

Of these, 62% of the women are store managers as well as a recently appointed female operations director and menu development consultant.

Chief executive Mark Lilley said: “While there is still obviously a great need for awareness days like today – (only 18.5% of professional chefs in the UK are female) - Abokado has always welcomed individuals with passion, commitment and team spirit into the family, regardless of their gender.

“In my experience, women bring a unique set of skills to the workplace, including high emotional intelligence, intuition and empathy.”
